Two people have been charged after a dog attack in which a 40-year-old woman died after being bitten in the arms and legs by two Rottweilers.

Marie Stevens died at her Brighton-le-Sands home, two weeks after the attack in Netherton, Merseyside, on 18 August.

A post-mortem found the primary cause of her death was a blood clot.

Merseyside Police said Brian Walshe, 41, and Rachel Walshe, 69, both of Netherton, have been charged with owning the dogs that attacked her.

The pair are set to appear before South Sefton Magistrate's Court on 31 January, while the animals have been seized and placed in secure kennels.

Ms Stevens had received hospital treatment for her injuries and was discharged, but two weeks later the police were called after a report she had collapsed and died at her home.

Both Brian Walshe, 41, and Rachel Walshe, 69, have both been charged with being the owner or person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death.
