Five men charged over Liverpool 'disturbance' stabbings

Five men have been charged over a "large disturbance" in Liverpool which left four other men injured.

Four men suffered wounds near a nightclub on Victoria Street on 27 December, Merseyside Police said.

The force said a 21-year-old was in a critical but stable condition in hospital, while the others were recovering at home.

The charged men are due to appear at Liverpool and Knowsley Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

A 21-year-old man, from Huyton, has been charged with violent disorder, wounding with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.

The other four men - two 20-year-olds, one of Anfield and the other of no fixed address, and two 21-year-olds, one of Wavertree and the other from Huyton - are all accused of violent disorder.

A sixth man, a 29-year-old from Everton, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and violent disorder.

Police said he was held on Friday and will be questioned by detectives.

Officers were alerted to the incident after they found the 21-year-old with stab wounds to his chest at the junction of Church Street and Whitechapel at about 05:30 GMT on 27 December.

A force representative said a second man self-presented at hospital with a stab wound to his back, while two others suffered head lacerations which were "believed to have been caused by being hit with a bottle or glass".

They said it was believed two groups of men had come together after leaving The Safehouse nightclub.
