Fans call for Sven-Goran Eriksson to manage Liverpool FC Legends

Fans have launched a campaign calling for former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson to achieve his "dream" of managing Liverpool Football Club.

Reds supporters have called on the club to allow the 75-year-old Swede to manage a Liverpool Legends home game against Ajax Legends in March.

Eriksson announced last week he had been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

He also revealed he was a Reds fan and had "always wished to be the manager of Liverpool".

"My father is still alive and is still a Liverpool supporter, and I'm a Liverpool supporter as well, I've always been," Eriksson told Sky News.

"So I always wished to be the manager of Liverpool, and that will not happen for sure, but I'm still a Liverpool fan."

'Unite in hardship'

After hearing the revelation Liverpool fans took to social media in a bid to make it happen with former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler posting on X that calls had "gone in".

When asked if he would accept the position, Eriksson told Good Morning Britain: "I would accept of course, that's been my dream.

"There would be a lot of good football players, That's always been my dream but I'm not complaining. I had a lot of good football teams, national teams and the clubs so I'm happy anyhow."

Liverpool FC Legends are set to take on AFC Ajax Legends in a charity match at Anfield on 23 March.

Speaking on BBC Radio Merseyside Dan Clubbe of The Redmen TV said the campaign to help Eriksson fulfil his wish showed how football fans "can unite in times of hardship".

He said supporters often came together to "make people's dreams come true".

"The legends days are brilliant days they make a lot of money for good causes. I'd absolutely love to see it happen."

All money raised from the fixture will support the work of LFC Foundation and charity partners.
