A 100-year-old woman is living in "horrendous" conditions with holes in the roof, leaky ceilings, damp walls and cannot wash, her daughter has said.

Doreen Harrison wishes to stay in her family home in Bootle where she raised her children with her late husband.

However her daughter, also called Doreen, said the home risked her mum's health and her complaints to the landlord had been "ignored".

The BBC has contacted the private landlord, BPM Property, for a comment.

Ms Harrison is confined to the ground floor living room since she became ill two years ago.

She cannot walk upstairs and has no access to the bathroom or bedrooms.

Her daughter offered to cover the cost of a stairlift as long as the landlord provided a shower as her mum cannot get in the bath.

She said "He replied, 'Well, you only live down the road. Can't she go to your house?'

"What sort of human being would keep a 100 year-old woman living like this?"

Constant drip

She said she raised numerous and serious disrepair issues which had been "ignored".

Two years ago part of the back bedroom ceiling came down due to a severe leak which took approximately six months to fix.

In December roof tiles crashed into the back yard leaving a prominent hole and water has started coming through the ceilings of the front bedroom and the landing, the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) said.

A large hole in the bedroom ceiling has resulted in one part falling on the carpet leaving a constant drip as water leaks onto the loft hatch, it added.

Ms Harrison's daughter said the landlord had told her in an email five weeks after the incident that it had been "particularly impossible for any roof work to be undertaken" and "no doubt all roofers will be under particular stress", adding that he was "trying my best to get something done - if you can help that would be great!".

The landlord, BPM Property, has also been approached for comment by the LDRS.
