Liverpool: Man in critical condition after being hit by taxi

A man who was hit by a cab is in a life-threatening condition, police have said.

The 46-year-old was struck by a silver Hackney taxi in Brownlow Hill, Liverpool at about 01:25 GMT on Sunday, Merseyside Police said.

He was taken to hospital, while a 52-year-old man was held on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving.

The man remains in custody as police appeal for information.

Det Sgt Kurt Timpson said: "This collision happened at a busy location and despite the time of night I believe it will have been witnessed by members of the public."

He urged local businesses and residents to check if their CCTV systems had captured the crash and contact them.
