A man has been arrested after a runaway electric car was boxed in by police and stopped on the M62.

Police previously said the driver of the Jaguar I-Pace had called for help at about 14:15 GMT on Wednesday 6 March.

Jaguar Land Rover launched an investigation after the incident.

Merseyside Police said a man, 31, from Bolton was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and causing a public nuisance and remains in custody.

The force said an investigation supported by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) remains ongoing.

The incident unfolded on the M58, before officers from the Roads Policing Unit escorted the Jaguar to the M57 and then the M62.

The vehicle was eventually stopped 25 minutes later between Junction 11 for Birchwood and 12 for Eccles.

A police spokesman said officers "worked together to stop all other traffic".

No injuries were reported.
