Seizures linked to 'dangerous batch' of ketamine in Liverpool

Three people have suffered seizures after taking a "dangerous batch" of ketamine being sold in a city's bars, police have said.

They had taken the drug at a property in Fleet Street, Liverpool, at about 05:00 GMT, Merseyside Police said.

The trio were taken to hospital, with one of them remaining there in a stable condition.

Another is being assessed by doctors and the third person has been discharged.

Detectives appealed for information and said patrol officers would remain in the city centre.

Ketamine is a medication used for pain control by doctors and vets.

Det Insp Ruth Tickle said: "We have had recent reports of a dangerous batch of ketamine being sold in bars in our city and we are determined to help young people understand the harmful effects and risks of the associated drug."

She encouraged people to report any use of the drug to officers "so we can keep you and your friends safe".

"If you are concerned about your own use of ketamine or other drugs or alcohol, or you are concerned about somebody else, there are support services available," she added.
