An injured wallaby spotted on the loose in the Norfolk countryside after escaping from a wildlife centre has been found dead by a roadside.

Motorists reported seeing the animal on Monday night on the Fakenham Road near Great Witchingham.

Police tried to capture the animal, which had suffered a leg injury, but it made off into a nearby field.

The animal's body was found on Tuesday night lying beside a road in the area where the first sightings were made.
