Norwich Pride: 'Record' numbers for fifth parade

"Record numbers" of people have turned out in Norwich for this year's Pride parade and festival.

Members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered (LGBT) community took part in the fifth annual city parade.

"Way in excess of the expected 5,000 have turned out this year," spokeswoman Michelle Savage said.

"Its been brilliant every year, but this year it just seems to have come of age and we've had fantastic support right across the city," she added.

She said the event had booked out The Forum for the whole week which she believed had helped to build momentum.

The event was "all about visibility", organisers said.

"One of the ways we can oppress any minority group is to make them invisible.

"Pride is about saying, 'We're not going to be invisible. We're here'," Ms Savage said.
