A coach driver who fell asleep at the wheel while taking 42 school children to the seaside has been given a suspended sentence.

Ross Ogilvie, 23, of Heathfield, Royston, was driving from Whittlesford in Cambridgeshire to Hunstanton in Norfolk when he overturned the bus.

He had held a coach driving licence for four weeks before the crash last year.

He received a six month sentence, suspended for 18 months, after admitting dangerous driving.

The children from William Westley Primary School were accompanied by five teachers and one parent.

They suffered minor injuries when the bus crashed into ditch at about 10:50 BST on the A10 at Hilgay in Norfolk.

Norfolk Crown Court heard Ogilvie had been feeling tired prior to the crash on 22 July 2014.

The coach was one of five from Royston-based company Richmond's carrying children on the school trip.

Ogilvie was also disqualified from driving for 18 months, ordered to do 200 hours unpaid work and to pay £350 costs, as well as £500 compensation to one child.
