More than 1,000 boaters were issued with warnings between September and October

More than 1,000 boaters were given warnings for speeding and other offences on the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads in the past two months.

Broads Authority rangers issued warnings to 1,136 people between September and October.

Some 891 were warnings for speeding; 72 for care and caution; 75 for other offences and 99 for special directions.

The data was revealed in a report to a recent meeting of Broads Authority's navigation committee.

Most verbal speed warnings, 387, were issued in Wroxham and the Upper Bure area, reports the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

Various speed limits are in force across the waterways, ranging from three to six miles per hour.

The second highest number, 232, was at Irstead on the River Ant.

The number of warnings has almost halved compared to the much busier summer period when 2,260 warnings were issued between June and August.

The Broads Authority has prosecuted four boaters and two sailing boat users were fined a total of £1,253.79 for non payment of tolls.

A further two people were fined for overstaying and not having insurance - £1,530 for a motor cruise and £2,760 for a yacht.
