Increase in drink-driving arrests in Northamptonshire
- Published
Police in Northamptonshire arrested 81 people for drink driving during June, a higher percentage of those tested compared with last year.
The force stopped 758 drivers for breath tests in a campaign to coincide with the World Cup. The 81 arrests equated to 11% of those tested.
In June 2009, almost twice as many people - 1,448 - were tested, with the resulting 106 arrests representing 7%.
Police said the increase was due to the campaign being "intelligence led".
Officers acted on information rather than stopping drivers at random.
