Planners reject wind farm plans for battle site

Plans for a wind farm near the site of the historic Battle of Naseby in Northamptonshire have been refused.

Energy company E.ON applied to Daventry District Council to build seven turbines near Kelmarsh Hall.

Opponents said wildlife would be affected and the site was close to an accident-prone stretch of the A14.

The Stop Kelmarsh Wind farm group said it was "absolutely delighted and relieved" at the decision.

E.ON said earlier the wind farm could produce up to 17.5MW of power, enough to meet the needs of 7,828 households and displace more than 15,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year.

The firm said it was disappointed with the decision and was reviewing options.
