Houses to be renovated in Northamptonshire revamp plan

Up to £300,000 could be spent renovating empty houses in one Northamptonshire town as part of a £4.5m scheme of improvements.

Wellingborough Council has devised a draft capital programme which includes more than 15 projects to improve the town.

They include protecting Glamis Hall from vandals and building a new sports court near Shelley Road.

About £541,000 would be spent on improving the High Street war memorial.

Another £60,000 would be spent on a multi-sport court on council land adjacent to the A509.

Councillor Martin Griffiths, welcomed the plans but said it was important that Wellingborough's residents understood where the funds could be spent.

He said: "When we have got people in my ward who can't get into town on the buses we have to be careful that it is understood that we couldn't spend that money on improvements to the buses."

The draft will come back to committee in February when decisions will be made.
