'Innovation Cube' building plans are approved for Northampton

Proposals for a new cubed building in Northampton have been approved by the West Northamptonshire Developments Corporation (WNDC).

The five-storey high building, called the Innovation Cube, will provide premises for up to 60 businesses.

The office block, which will be located opposite Castle Railway Station, is estimated to cost £6.5m.

The project is part of Northampton's Enterprise Zone development along the River Nene.

Work will include building new homes, offices, shops and community facilities.

Adrian Arnold, WNDC's Director of Planning Services said: "Along with plans for the wider area, the Innovation Cube will form an impressive gateway into the centre of Northampton."

The WNDC is part-funding the project and is also working on securing investment from other sources.

This is the third innovation centre that the WNDC has helped to fund and build. It has previously worked on the University of Northampton's Innovation centre in 2009 and Daventry's iCon building.

The WNDC said once funding has been secured, construction could start later this year and be completed in 2014.
