Two new grandstands are to open at the Silverstone circuit in Northamptonshire ahead of the British Grand Prix.

The stands, named Luffield Complex and Silverstone, will be located by the Luffield section of the track and on National Pits straight respectively.

Both stands combined will provide seating for 3,500 spectators.

Silverstone Circuits Limited, which runs the circuit, said it had to expand because several grandstands had already sold out.

The company said ticket sales for the British Grand Prix were up 10% on the same period last year.

Richard Phillips, managing director of the company, said: "Increasing our capacity will enable even more fans to experience the spectacle, excitement and drama of Formula One at Silverstone."

The British Grand Prix will take place on the first weekend of July.
