Glenn Clary murder trial: Defendant 'admitted killing'

A man accused of murdering a 60-year-old admitted his part in the killing, a court has heard.

John York, 23, allegedly told Andrew Wright he had "beaten" Glenn Clary, who died last August in Irthlingborough.

Northampton Crown Court heard the defendant tried to buy heroin from Mr Wright's flat in the town after the attack.

Mr York, Jennifer Ryan, 46, and Gary Monaghan, 64, all from Irthlingborough, deny Mr Clary's murder.

Mr Wright told the court: "He [Mr York] said he wouldn't be seeing me around. He said he had beaten Glenn to death."

'Smirking'

Another resident in the block of flats, Jack Cronin, said Mr York went to his home that night and appeared "agitated and sweaty".

He said: "I said 'John, what you done?' He told me what he had done but he didn't say to who.

"I said 'Did you kill someone?' He said 'Yes'.

"He was smirking when he said it first of all.

"We left to go to the front room. I said I would keep my mouth shut. I couldn't tell my partner, but the next day I texted my sister."

Earlier, the jury saw clips showing Mr Clary being hit in the face by two men and slapped by a woman.

He was also filmed with blood on his face.

Prosecutors say Mr Clary was murdered by Mr York, of Crouch Road, Mr Monaghan, also of Crouch Road, and Ms Ryan, of Baker Street.

The victim, who lived at Garden Field Close, was found dead at a house in Crouch Road on 26 August.

He died from internal bleeding after blunt force trauma caused lacerations to his liver. He had bruises and cuts on his face, back and stomach as well as some on his legs.

Several of his ribs were also fractured and he had signs of brain damage, the court heard.

The trial continues.
