James Ashworth: Corby square named after fallen VC soldier

James Ashworth VC Square was unveiled in Corby to honour the fallen soldier

A soldier who received a posthumous Victoria Cross after being killed in Afghanistan has had a public square in his home town named after him.

L/Cpl James Ashworth, 23, from Corby, died while eliminating an insurgent position in the Nahr-e-Saraj district last June to protect his colleagues.

A service was held in the space outside the Corby Cube earlier to honour him.

Corby mayor Judy Caine said his family and the town must feel "incredibly honoured" by the dedication.

The ceremony coincided with Armed Forces Day, with many other events being held around the county - including a 5km Honour Walk in Northampton and a parade in Wellingborough.
