Brackley hospital replacement plans set for approval

Plans for a development to replace a Northamptonshire hospital are expected to be approved.
The NHS wants to close Brackley Cottage Hospital and move its 12 beds to a new nursing care home on land opposite the sawmill on Northampton Road.
The development site would also include a NHS "primary care centre", Sainsbury's supermarket and a hotel.
South Northamptonshire Council officers are recommending councillors vote to approve the scheme on Thursday.
The new privately-run nursing care home would have 60 beds in total, but it would include an "intermediate care bed facility", which NHS managers said would replace services currently provided at the hospital.
The NHS wants to relocate the existing Brackley Health Centre and Washington House Surgery at a new primary care centre to be built at the site.
Replacing the hospital, which dates from the late 19th Century, was an issue for candidates, external in South Northamptonshire at the 2010 general election.
