Northampton Saints celebrate with open-top bus tour

More than 30,000 people turned out in Northampton as the Saints celebrated their title-winning rugby season on an open-top bus tour through the town.

The parade travelled from Franklin's Gardens to the Market Square, with the team raising their Premiership trophy and Challenge Cup at the Guildhall.

Director of rugby Jim Mallinder said their season was "brilliant for the club, for the town and the whole area".

"Hopefully we can go onwards and win some more trophies," he added.

Fans also lined Weedon Road, Gold Street and George Row to welcome the players home.

Saints won their first Premiership trophy in nail-biting fashion on Saturday, with a try in the last minute of extra-time at Twickenham sinking Saracens by 24 points to 20.

Earlier in May they beat Bath to secure the Amlin Challenge Cup, despite having a seven-point half-time deficit.

Saints captain Tom Wood said: "The amount of support we've got, what it means to the town and the people, I'm just incredibly proud to have been a part of it and to create this reaction."
