Stanley Harrison stabbing: Hanaryan Johal told police "my life is over"

A teenager accused of murdering his best friend was captured on police body cameras sobbing that his life is over.

Hanaryan Johal, 18, told officers, "It does not matter. I am going to die. I am going to kill myself," Northampton Crown Court heard.

Giving evidence, Mr Johal said he and Stanley Harrison were "like brothers".

He has pleaded not guilty to the murder of Mr Harrison, 17, who died after being stabbed in the neck at a house party in Daventry on 14 June.

Mr Johal, known as Ryan, has admitted stabbing his friend, but said he acted in self-defence.

The jury watched video taken from the body cameras of police who arrived at the scene.

The footage showed Mr Johal sobbing to officers that his life was over and that he was going to jail.

Mr Johal then took to the stand to say he had not intended to kill anyone, he had just wanted to get Mr Harrison out of the house.

He told the jury he and Mr Harrison "were more than just best friends, we were like brothers".

On Monday, Chris Donnellan, prosecuting, said Mr Johal had told police he had thrown his hands up not realising he had a knife in them after being attacked by Mr Harrison.

Last week, Mr Donnellan said the pair had been drinking and taking cocaine when a fight started over tobacco.

After the incident, Mr Johal made a video of himself on his phone saying he had "killed my best friend".
