A pilot has died after the light aircraft he was flying crashed shortly after take-off police have confirmed.

The aircraft crashed shortly after take-off from Spanhoe Airfield, near Corby at about 12:45GMT on Sunday.

Northamptonshire Police said a passenger on board sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries and is in hospital.

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch and the police are investigating the cause of the crash.
