The Liberal Democrats have picked their candidate for a potential by-election if the current MP is ousted.

Care home worker and former Northamptonshire Police officer Ana Savage Gunn would run for the Wellingborough seat.

MP Peter Bone was suspended from the Commons for six weeks following an inquiry into his behaviour.

A recall petition is under way until 19 December and will trigger a by-election if 10% of the electorate sign it.

Parliament's behaviour watchdog found last month that Mr Bone broke sexual misconduct rules by indecently exposing himself to a staff member during an overseas trip and also upheld five allegations of bullying.

Mr Bone denied the charges.

The Conservative Party had already withdrawn the whip from the MP, meaning he would not be able to stand for re-election as a Tory candidate and currently sits as an independent.

The Green Party, Labour and the Liberal Democrats were the other parties to field candidates in Wellingborough in the 2019 general election.
