Beeston railway station to get £250,000 makeover

A railway station in Nottinghamshire is set to benefit from a £250,000 improvement scheme.
Work will begin on Beeston station in January, jointly funded by Nottinghamshire County Council and Broxtowe Borough Council.
CCTV cameras will be put up around the station, lighting and footways will be improved and a taxi rank will be put in place near the station.
It is also hoped a new public car park for commuters will be built nearby.
Councillor Richard Jackson, cabinet member for transport and highways from Conservative-led Nottinghamshire County Council, said: "We recognise Beeston Railway Station as an important part of the county's transport network.
"The station is a listed building and very well used. In fact, more than 400,000 commuters use the station every year and the approach to the station has become a little run down due to wear and tear and is in need of a makeover."
The project is part of an environmental improvement plan to transform the area around the council.
