The first phase in a major scheme to transform Nottingham Railway Station has started.
Work on a new station car park has begun as part of £60m improvements to create a new transport interchange.
The 950-space multi-storey car park is being built on the site of the former open car park at Queens Road.
Next year work is due to start on the Grade ll listed station buildings with the creation of a new ticket office and passenger arrival hall.
The car park is expected to be complete by spring 2012.
Until it opens, the Sovereign House multi-storey on Sheriffs Way is being used as the station's temporary car park.
A new concourse is also being built to link up with the planned expansion of the city's tram network.
The entire project is due to be completed by late 2014.
