A man has appeared in court charged with dangerous driving after a Nottinghamshire police officer who came off his bike was seriously injured.

PC Diederik Coetzee, 55, was left in a critical condition after a crash near Blidworth last November.

Mitchel Graham, 25, of Grange Road, Blidworth, has been charged with two counts of dangerous driving, at Mansfield Magistrates' Court.

The case has been adjourned for trial at Nottingham Crown Court.

The Mansfield South beat officer came off his bicycle on 25 November 2011.

He remains in Ashfield Community Hospital but is making "a slow but steady recovery", a police spokesman said.

Mr Graham has also been charged with failing to stop at a collision and failure to report a collision.

Police have seized a Volkswagen Corrado as part of their investigation.
