East Midlands Airport unveils £12m investment

A £12m refurbishment of the main terminal at East Midlands Airport has been announced.

Officials said the money would be spent on an improved terminal layout focussing on the security search area and shopping units.

It represented, the owners said, the largest investment in the terminal building for 17 years.

Work will be phased to keep disruption to a minimum and was expected to be completed by the end of 2013.

An airport spokesman said environmentally friendly features should mean a 15% cut in energy use.
