Tram works close major Nottingham road

A major road through Nottingham is due to close later for eight months while work to extend the city's tram network is carried out.

Buses and cars will be diverted due to the closure of Southchurch Drive, Clifton, Nottingham Express Transit (NET) said.

A section between Swansdowne Drive and Green Lane will also shut, but buses would keep to timetable, it added.

The work involves moving pipes, cables, laying tram tracks and building stops.

NET said despite concerns from traders, access to shops, businesses and homes would be maintained.

Clifton Market will be open as usual, with a temporary car park for shoppers created on the site of the old Green Lane roundabout.

The £570m tram project includes the construction of two new lines which will serve Wilford, Clifton, Beeston and Chilwell.
