Some users feared the safety issue would be used to close the Meden Sports Centre permanently

A Nottinghamshire sports centre, closed over safety fears, will partially reopen within weeks.

Meden Sports Centre, in Warsop, was shut at short notice on 22 August after an inspection found problems with the "fire resistance of the building".

Some users had expressed fears the building would shut permanently.

Mansfield District Council said the sports hall should reopen by 15 September but the pool would be closed until next year.

Officials said they intended to work in two phases, which would allow the sports hall and multi-use games room to be back in use in under three weeks.

However, the pool and and sports centre sections of the site would need to be shut throughout the autumn and winter.

Memberships will be frozen throughout this period and swimming lessons will be moved to the nearby Rebecca Adlington Swimming Centre.
