Car bursts into flames after M1 police chase

The car caught fire in Nottingham Road in Stapleford

A police chase along the M1 ended with the car being pursued bursting into flames.

Nottinghamshire Police said the car "came to a fiery halt" in Stapleford on Thursday evening after being pursued for more than 12 miles.

A police car from the force's dog section was damaged when objects were thrown at it but the handler and dogs were uninjured.

Two people were arrested nearby on suspicion of theft from a vehicle.

Stapleford town councillor Richard MacRae said the fire also damaged a nearby business, Tailored to You.

Officers were called at 20:05 GMT to an incident in St John's Crescent in Hucknall.

Police said: "Officers pursued a vehicle connected to the incident which was abandoned and later caught fire in the Nottingham Road area of Stapleford."

Police said the vehicle was not stolen.

Derbyshire Police and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service also assisted.
