A man has been arrested after suspected explosive materials were found at a house.
Nottinghamshire Police said about 25 residents were evacuated from neighbouring properties after officers went to Finsbury Road in Arnold at about 23:50 BST on Wednesday.
The suspected explosives were taken away for further testing.
A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing an explosive substance and remains in custody.
The force said officers would remain at the scene while inquiries continued, adding the incident was not believed to be terror-related.
Det Insp Richard Guy said: "I would like to thank local residents for their cooperation last night in challenging circumstances.
"Acting out of an abundance of caution, emergency services took the decision to evacuate neighbouring properties while these substances were removed by appropriately trained experts."
