A man is in a life-threatening condition in hospital after being stabbed outside a pub.

The 27-year-old was attacked near the Nags Head pub in Station Street, Kirkby in Ashfield, in the early hours of Sunday.

Nottinghamshire Police said officers were called to the scene shortly before 01:00 BST. No-one has been arrested.

The victim was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre where he remains after suffering serious injuries.

A cordon remained in place around the pub on Sunday.

An increased police presence will be in the area while an investigation takes place, police said.

Det Insp Claire Gould said: "This was a nasty assault which has left the victim in a life-threatening condition.

"We have a dedicated team of detectives working to identify the suspect and to ensure they are brought to justice."
