Watch: Grinning thief steals from elderly man in Worksop
A man has been jailed after stealing an 88-year-old man's wallet.
Andrew Merritt approached the man, who was on a mobility scooter, in Potter Street, Worksop, and asked for some change.
The victim handed him £3.10, before Merritt hugged him and stole his wallet in the process.
The theft, which happened on 1 August, was caught on CCTV and showed Merritt smiling as he walked away with £1,100.
The 34-year-old was arrested six days later and charged with robbery.
He initially pleaded not guilty but changed his plea to guilty on 6 October, Nottinghamshire Police said.
Merritt, of Cheapside, Worksop, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court and was jailed for four years.
He was also given a criminal behaviour order and banned from Worksop town centre for four years.
