A swan has been rescued after "causing mayhem" by running around on the A617 in Nottinghamshire.

Traffic was "backing up" in Sutton-in-Ashfield on Monday as motorists avoided the bird, police said.

Officers used a jacket to pick up the swan, which was looking "very sorry for itself", and move it into a police vehicle.

It managed to avoid a custody interrogation and was instead returned home to Kings Mill Reservoir.
