Tinchy Stryder replaces Simon Webbe at Christmas lights switch-on

Blue singer Simon Webbe has been replaced by rapper Tinchy Stryder after pulling out of attending a Christmas lights switch-on in Mansfield.

Webbe previously blamed a flat tyre for his no-show at a Christmas lights switch-on in Derby in 2021.

He cannot attend this Sunday's event in Mansfield due to "a last-minute schedule conflict", the council said.

People in the Nottinghamshire town have reacted positively to Stryder being announced as his replacement.

"What a replacement! I'm defo coming now," said one commenter, external on Mansfield District Council's Facebook page.

"Brilliant for the young and young at heart to enjoy the switch on," said another.

Stryder has had two UK number one singles, external and has collaborated with Taio Cruz, Calvin Harris and the Chuckle Brothers, external.

Mansfield's Big Switch On is free to attend and starts in the Market Place from 12:00 GMT.

The council said there would be "lots of festive entertainment" ahead of the main stage show starting at 15:00.

Stryder's set will start at about 16:25 and last about 30 minutes.

The lights will be switched on between 16.55 and 17:00 and Stryder will be pressing the button.
