Police arrested a man at the Picture House pub, close to where the attack took place

A man was slashed across the face with a knife while walking to work.

The attack, described by Nottinghamshire Police as "horrendous", happened at about 17:20 GMT on Wednesday in Forest Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield.

Officers arrested a 33-year-old man at the nearby Picture House pub on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

The 44-year-old victim was said to have been pulled to the ground and then attacked.

He remains at Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre with serious and life-changing injuries to his face.

The force is urging potential witnesses to come forward.
