Blidworth: Boy, 7, brings festive joy to children at hospital

Jack received a certificate of appreciation from hospital staff for his "incredibly kind and generous gesture"

A seven-year-old boy has donated hundreds of items to children who will be in hospital over the festive period.

Jack handed over chocolate selection boxes, teddies, colouring books and sweets to staff at King's Mill Hospital in Nottinghamshire.

He said he felt "happy and joyful" when he gave the presents, adding that he would like to do the same next year.

Sherwood Forest Hospitals Foundation Trust said it was "very grateful" to Jack for his "generous gesture".

The schoolboy, from Blidworth, handed over 230 selection boxes, 14 tubes of sweets, 12 colouring books and four teddies to the children's ward.

Jack said: "I decided to give them [children] something because they might not get many presents.

"It made me feel happy and joyful."

'Incredibly kind'

Jack received a certificate of appreciation from hospital staff in recognition of his donation.

Jack's mother, Rebecca, said he had bought many of the chocolates with his own money while others were donated by friends and family.

"He's an amazing little boy and we are all so proud of him," she said.

"His school sent him a letter to say they were really proud of him too.

"Jack has now started to save his pocket money to buy gifts for the children next year."

The 32-year-old said her son had previously also raised money for the neonatal unit at the hospital.

Jo Thornley, community involvement manager at the hospital trust, said: "We are very grateful to Jack and everyone who supported his incredibly kind and generous gesture.

"Sherwood Forest Hospitals Charity could not provide the support it does to patients, families and visitors across our three hospitals without the help of businesses, groups and individuals like Jack who make donations all year round."
