Two people had to be resuscitated by the police and fire service

Two people have been left in a serious condition after a house fire in the early hours.

The fire service went to the blaze in Rawson Street, Selston, Nottinghamshire, at about 01:00 GMT on Sunday after reports of persons being trapped inside the property.

Three people escaped but two others required rescuing and resuscitation, a spokesperson said.

A joint police and fire service investigation has begun.

Fire engines from Ashfield, Alfreton and Eastwood attended, as well as police, the ambulance service and air ambulance.

All five people involved were taken to the Queen's Medical Centre but two are in a serious condition, Nottinghamshire Police said.

The area has been cordoned off while the investigation, which is likely to take days, gets under way.
