An 18-year-old has denied murdering a man who was allegedly attacked close to a skate park in Nottingham.

Jack Edwards, 24, died two days after suffering "significant" head injuries near Sussex Street Skate Park on 5 December.

Kai Howitt, 18, of Trent Boulevard, West Bridgford, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday.

Mr Howitt pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody to face trial on 20 May.

Robbery charges

A 13-year-old boy, who is also charged with murder, also appeared but was not called on to enter a plea.

Both the boy and Mr Howitt have also been charged with robbery but these charges were not put to them.

A 16-year-old girl, who is also charged with robbery but also cannot be named, did not appear for the hearing because she was not well enough to attend, the court heard.

She must appear for a further hearing at the court on 2 February.

A 17-year-old boy arrested at the time on suspicion of murder was released, with no further action taken, police said.

Four other suspects - a 12 year-old boy, a 13-year-old boy, a 14-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl - were also arrested on suspicion of robbery and violent disorder.

All have since been released on conditional bail.
