Southwell: 'Incredible' Museum of the Moon to arrive at cathedral
- Published
A giant display of the Moon will soon arrive at Nottinghamshire's Southwell Minster.
The cathedral will host Luke Jerram's Museum of the Moon touring artwork from 12 to 22 October, along with concerts and poetry readings.
With a diameter of 23ft (7m), the display uses NASA imagery to show the Moon's surface.
Each centimetre of the internally-lit sphere represents three miles (5km) of lunar terrain.
The image uses 120dpi (dots per inch) images from NASA to show the Moon at an approximate scale of 1:500,000.
'Ponder our place'
Surround sound created by award-winning composer Dan Jones will accompany the display.
More than 11,000 visitors came to view Gaia, a seven-metre diameter (23ft) installation of planet Earth last year at the cathedral.
Glenn Formoy, head of marketing and events at Southwell Minster, said: "This is an incredible opportunity to view the Moon up close and ponder our place in the world."
