The latest challenge, in Wales, was in aid of Children in Need

Twins from Nottinghamshire have celebrated their eighth birthday by completing their third three-peak challenge.

Sophie and Jessica, from Kimberley, have scaled the national, Yorkshire and Wales peaks in the past year.

They have raised more than £9,000 for charities, including Children in Need.

The pair said they had been inspired by their parents and the challenge, which involved walking at night, had been "a bit hard and a bit easy".

The weather on the Welsh leg of the challenge was not always kind

Sophie said: "When my dad started walking with my mum and all our friends I wanted to do it.

"So I asked them if I could do the national three peaks and they said yes.

"That was quite easy but also a bit hard, then we did Yorkshire and that was a bit hard and a bit easy."

Jessica said: "I do enjoy it but I'm more of an uphill walker then a downhill.

"I fell over twice when I did the national, on Ben Nevis and Scarfell Pike."

Determination and smiles

Their mother, Melanie, said: "We have always walked and they have come with us from when they were little.

"So they have seen us do it and wanted to do it themselves.

"I wasn't convinced to start with but Dad jumped all over it and said 'Why not, why can't they do it?'.

"And they have proved me wrong, they have climbed with determination and a smile, despite some miserable weather."

The twins completed the national Three Peaks - Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scarfell Pike in England and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) in Wales - in June 2023.

They then climbed the Yorkshire Three Peaks of Pen y Gent, Whernside and Ingleboroguh in August 2023.

Over the bank holiday weekend they finished the Welsh Three Peaks which are Yr Wyddfa, Cadair Idris and Pen y Fan.
