An Oxfordshire village has seen a steam train stop at its station for the first time in 50 years, as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Nearly 100 Goring residents boarded the train hauled by the Tornado locomotive to travel to Worcester.

Mike Hurst of the local historical society said the trip was "causing incredible excitement in the village".

Heritage railway operator Steam Dreams plans to stop regularly at the commuter station from later in 2012.

Goring and Streatley station was adorned with bunting for what Mr Hurst described as the "biggest single exodus from the village".

The event is the final in a series of Diamond Jubilee celebrations which also included what was claimed to be the longest street party, with 4,000 residents lining up tables from Goring to Streatley on 3 June.
