Oxfordshire floods: Rescue at flood-hit caravan park

About 20 residents of a flooded caravan park next to the River Thames in Oxfordshire have been rescued for the second time in five weeks.

A floating sledge and a rescue boat are being used by fire crews to help people from their homes at the Bablockhythe site, near Northmoor.

They are being transported in 4x4s and temporarily housed elsewhere by the district council.

It comes as roads across Oxfordshire have been closed due to flooding.

Abingdon Road in Oxford was shut at 04:15 GMT from its junction with Thames Street to the Kennington roundabout.

The city council-run Seacourt park-and-ride at Botley was also closed earlier due to the rising waters.

Oxfordshire County Council said it had distributed more than 2,000 sandbags to parts of Chalgrove, Henley, Playhatch, South Moreton, Wantage, Watlington, Burcott and Postcombe.

The Bablockhythe Caravan Park was also evacuated on 8 January when homes became surrounded by water.

A number of flood alerts and warnings are still in place across the county.

On Friday, 37 schoolchildren were rescued from a bus trapped in flood waters near Faringdon.
