Oxford United celebrate promotion with open-top bus parade

The victory parade began at Broad Street, before making its way to Oxford Town Hall

About 5,000 Oxford United fans have filled the city centre to watch the team parade on an open-top bus in celebration of their promotion to League One.

The victory parade began at Broad Street at about 17:00 BST.

It then made its way to Oxford Town Hall where the Lord Mayor congratulated the team at a private reception.

United were promoted from League Two on Saturday after beating Wycombe Wanderers 3-0 at the Kassam Stadium.

The last open-top bus procession the team took part in was in 2010 after they were promoted from the Conference.

Club chairman Darryl Eales said: "We have had a brilliant season and this is a great opportunity for everyone to celebrate together."

Councillor Bob Price, leader of Oxford City Council, said the turnout for the parade showed "the level of support and joy there is for the club and their fantastic achievements this season".

Broad Street remained closed until 20:00 BST.
