Worcester Street was closed both ways between George Street and Walton Street
A sinkhole opened up in the centre of Oxford causing a main road to be closed.
The hole appeared on the A4144 Worcester Street near Oxford University Student Union on Monday night.
Although the opening of the hole on the road surface appeared small, Oxford City Council said there was a large one metre deep cavity beneath.
It was closed both ways between George Street and Walton Street for repairs and reopened on Tuesday afternoon.

Repairs took place to fill in the one metre deep cavity

The road closure caused traffic delays in the centre of Oxford
Motorists were advised to avoid the area.
The closure also caused severe delays and disruption to the city's bus services.
