Motorists are being warned of potential delays as new bus lanes and speed limits are introduced at a major roundabout.

Oxfordshire County Council said the work at Kidlington Roundabout was due to run until June 2024.

The council warned that "delays are likely throughout the works".

The roundabout is on one of the main routes into Oxford and is near where Oxford United has proposed building its new stadium.

The scheme is expected to include new dedicated bus lanes on Bicester Road southbound.

This would link with the bus lane on the eastern section of Kidlington Roundabout, as well as new signalised crossings on Bicester Road, Oxford Road and Frieze Way.

There is also a reduction in speed limits from 40mph (64km/h) to 30mph (48km/h) being proposed, a new 11ft (3.5m) wide shared use pedestrian and cycle path, as well as "improved street and footpath lighting".

A drop-in event will be held on 25 January from 15:00 to 20:00 GMT at Exeter Hall in Kidlington, which the council said was "an information event on the project and how we aim to minimise disruption".

A spokesman for the county council said: "While disruption will be minimised wherever possible, delays are likely throughout the works and everyone is being asked to review their daily route, mode of transport and time of travel and, where possible, consider alternatives."

Construction on the roundabout comes amid major housing projects in the area, which includes plans for 500 new homes.
