Shropshire Council needs to make more savings

Shropshire Council has said it must make more savings than expected as a result of the Comprehensive Spending Review.

The Conservative run council has said it now needs to save £76m over the next four years, £16m more than originally planned.

A spokesman said it will try and save £19m during the 2011/12 financial year.

Council leader Keith Barrow said the council would have to change the way it worked.

Some services would have to be devolved to community organisations and less essential public services would have to be scaled back or stopped altogether.
