An inquest into the death of a 15-year-old boy who collapsed on a school playing field has found that he died of natural causes.

Lewis Smith collapsed after a PE lesson at The Burton Borough School in Newport in November 2010.

Teachers tried to resuscitate him, but he was later confirmed dead at Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.

The inquest at Telford Magistrates' Court heard the teenager, of Howle near Newport, suffered a cardiac arrest.

Following the brief hearing, Lewis's family said they would be supporting the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young, in memory of the teenager.

Lewis's mother Jo paid tribute to her son.

"He was very, very energetic, he liked to be kept busy, he was one of the kindest people I have met," she said.

"He would spend a lot of his weekends carrying out various tasks for the Army cadets and he was also in the Scouts. He'd been there since he was a cub, since he was five."
