Shropshire Council to give up Quarry pool management

An outside organisation should manage a council-run swimming pool in Shropshire, councillors have decided.

Shropshire Council cabinet members said the Quarry swimming pool in Shrewsbury should be managed by someone other than the council to secure its future.

The council has to save £76m over the next three years following the government Spending Review.

Other organisations already run leisure centres in Shrewsbury, Whitchurch, Market Drayton and Oswestry.

The Conservative-led council said it hoped new management arrangements would be in place by next June.
