Plans for £1.1m Shrewsbury burial site given go-ahead

Proposals for a new £1.1m burial site in Shrewsbury have been approved by Shropshire council.

The site will replace the existing Emstrey Cemetery on the London Road, which is due to close in three years because of issues with water levels.

The council-owned land, which would allow woodland burial services, is near the B4386 Mytton Oak Road and the A5.

Shropshire Council said there was a need to build more burial grounds to "meet the current and future demand".

A public consultation is due to begin on 17 July.
